Overview
Assistant Accountant - Operating Costs & Overheads – based in London, permanent role within Sedgwick0s finance team, focused on managing and reporting the company 0f operating costs and overheads. This position reports to the Finance Manager and offers the chance to work with multiple departments across the business to improve financial reporting insights.
Responsibilities
* Own key cost areas (marketing, travel and entertainment, recruitment, legal, professional fees, IT) and contribute to accurate cost reporting.
* Lead month-end processes, identify risks and opportunities, and communicate insights to the wider finance team.
* Prepare and distribute cost reports that provide meaningful analysis to support decision-making.
* Collaborate with Sedgwick shore service provider to ensure timely balance sheet reconciliations, journal postings and ad-hoc reclassifications.
* Manage accruals and prepayment schedules; maintain robust financial controls and recommend process improvements where needed.
* Be a hands-on member of a fast-paced, private equity-backed environment with exposure to the insurance services sector.
* Minimum two days per week in the London office; occasional travel to other Sedgwick locations may be required.
Qualifications & Skills
* Finance experience: knowledge and hands-on experience in month-end processes, journal postings, and balance sheet reconciliations.
* Professional ambition: desire to pursue a professional qualification (ACCA, CIMA, ACA or equivalent).
* System knowledge: strong Excel skills (Pivot Tables and VLOOKUP); familiarity with SAP Hana is desirable.
* Communication:** ability to tailor communication across different stakeholder levels and backgrounds.
* Initiative and independence: self-starter who can work autonomously and seek continuous improvement.
* Curiosity and enthusiasm: interest in understanding the business and making the role their own.
* Time management: strong ability to prioritise workload and meet deadlines.
