We are looking for an enthusiastic, compassionate, and motivated Healthcare Support Worker to join our team at St Michael's Hospital. You should demonstrate excellent organisational skills, enjoy working as part of a team, and be passionate about maintaining patients' respect and dignity.
Ward 78 is a 22-bedded inpatient ward specialising in gynaecological oncology, early pregnancy complications up to 20 weeks gestation, palliative care, symptom management, emergency gynaecology conditions, and termination care. Working alongside the multidisciplinary team, you will assist patients with activities of daily living, including personal care. You will support and assess patients using vital observations, ECG, bladder scanning, venepuncture, and maintain patient safety using Trust-approved risk assessments. This role offers an exciting opportunity to gain experience in the Early Pregnancy Clinic, supporting their services during weekends.
We have two positions available. Please specify your preferred hours in your supporting statement:
* 1 x 23 hours/week (0.61 WTE)
* 1 x 30 hours/week (0.8 WTE)
Key responsibilities include:
* Practising safe standards of care following UHBW guidelines and policies within the Healthcare Support Worker scope
* Participating in patient assessment (under supervision) to deliver high standards of care
* Following area-specific competencies as identified by the clinical area
* Following individual patient care plans under supervision and reporting changes immediately to the Registered Nurse
* Advocating for patients' needs, ensuring adequate nutrition and hydration
* Providing personal care, supporting washing and dressing, monitoring skin changes, and escalating concerns about pressure or moisture damage
* Becoming a champion for patient care and working with a link nurse to expand knowledge on the ward
Executing clinical skills including: vital observations, blood glucose monitoring, ECG, bladder scan, venepuncture, and cannulation
Urine dip analysis and pregnancy test analysis
Providing compassionate care and bereavement support for patients receiving bad news
Chaperoning during clinical examinations
Maintaining clear documentation and being computer literate for electronic processes
Supporting the Early Pregnancy Clinic during weekend shifts
Implementing infection control protocols including: good hand hygiene, cleaning of clinical equipment, and changing bed linens
