Main duties of the job
The PostHolder will be expected to take responsibility for a number of tasks including:
1.Processreferrals prioritise, risk management, risk assessment of clients who are incrisis and may be displaying high risk behaviours.
PostHolder will be the first line contact for all mental health at all times to thegeneral Trust and primary care via the Single Point of Access (SPA).
PostHolder will be responsible for defining the level of acute mental health crisisand the use of resources. This includesthe decision to admit a person to either the acute inpatient beds, or Sussexhouse crisis beds, processing of general practitioner referrals and urgentAcute Mental Health and Memory Service referrals.
Post Holder will have to have an understanding of the relevant policies andtheir application to related face to face physical aggression and associatedactions, eg COSHH, Infection Control, exposure to body fluids. Exposure to both verbal and physicalaggression.

Job responsibilities
MAIN DUTIESAND RESPONSIBILITIES
ClinicalGovernance
To developand take an active role in quality monitoring of the service, including leadingof research projects and audit activity with the aim of improving theservice/service area. Partnership withservice users and carers is integral to these activities.
The PostHolder will be able to evaluate and review research and other relevantliterature and beware of the implications of the social and local policies,procedures and information packages related to service delivery. Will have the ability to work under pressureand manage staff and services
Managementand Leadership
The PostHolder will act as a role model for Sussex House staff, which will involveproviding support and guidance in order to maximise the experience for theservice user whilst they are residing in a crisis assessment bed.
The PostHolder will work within an environment that involves taking responsibility forthe use of a significant number of resources, including two crisis beds, accessto in-patient services, processing of referrals and allocation of activity toachieve rapid response to crisis referrals.
Will plan andorganise workloads for staff within the area to include allocation of staff,planning patient care and groups etc.
The PostHolder will supervise the day to day care of the work of the crisis and hometreatment ensuring staff are designated to appropriate areas. They will also be involved in the recruitmentand selection of staff along with personal development reviews and supervision.
Education andDevelopment
The AcuteMental Health and Memory Service is a learning environment which acceptsshort-term placements, any qualified practitioners and a wide variety of otheragencies, wishing to gain an insight into the Mental Health Services.
There is anexpectation that the Post Holder will be involved in the provision of internaltraining sessions and presentations to other services and students. Alongsidethis, it is a requirement that the post holder is motivated by learning anddevelopment and is willing to take part in specialist training to meet theneeds of the service users and service area.
The PostHolder may be asked to provide specific training or mentorship to students.
Acute MentalHealth and Memory Service staff are expected to become actively involved in thechange process and demonstrate commitment to changing roles, ie in thedevelopment of specialist protocols and specialised programmes of care.
Team memberswill provide continuous development and evaluation of patient informationpackages to the service.
Individualswithin the team will provide teaching and education to services users andcarers with regard to living with mental ill health, and how to access serviceproviders. This will involve workingclosely with other care providers, including relatives in a constructive mannerusing education, advice and support.
The PostHolder will be expected to organise and manage their own clinical supervision,and supervise peers, within NAViGO agreed guidelines.
Clinical Patient Care Duties and Responsibilities
To providehigh quality care and treatment in either the home, Sussex house, inpatient andhospital settings. Service usersreferred to the service will usually have complex needs and problems. Families/carers will also need appropriatesupport and there will be regular liaison/referral to other agencies. This will require capability in the followingareas:
maintainaccurate records, both written and computerised to a standard that reflectstheir level of clinical expertise. Thismay involve the use of specialised psychometric tools to complement theassessment and evaluation of client care.
PostHolder must have experience of using psychosocial interventions in clinicalpractice.
3.Liaisonwith community based services and resources such as education, welfare systems,employment, housing, Police and voluntary sector organisations to facilitatethe delivery of the most appropriate and best possible care for the individualand their families.
4.Discusscomplex issues surrounding risk management and plan care accordingly advisingothers regarding management of care.
5.Dischargeplanning.
