Job Summary

Are you looking for an opportunity to work in a hospital pharmacy setting and study for a fully funded Post Graduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy? The post supports progression from band 6 to band 7. This role is for Summer 2026 and includes a fully funded two-year Postgraduate Diploma in Foundation Pharmacy Practice with the University of Bradford, with the option to complete the non-medical prescribing module if not already a non-medical prescriber. You will be provided a work-based supervisor and allocated study time.

This is a band 6 to band 7 progression post; after being in post for at least 12 months and meeting the key responsibilities based on the Royal Pharmaceutical Society\'s Advanced Pharmacy Framework, you will be eligible for progression into a band 7 role.

We welcome applications from registered pharmacists and those who are currently in their Foundation Training Year, expecting to join the General Pharmaceutical Council register in Summer 2026. A relocation package is available on request.

Main duties of the job

Please carefully read the role-specific job description attached to this advert for a detailed overview of the role and duties. The Pharmacy team at York prides itself on being supportive and friendly, and staff development is encouraged.

You will gain clinical rotational experience across a full range of specialties, including acute medicine, elderly care, respiratory, cardiology, gastroenterology, stroke, diabetes and surgery, as well as departmental rotations including aseptics and radiopharmacy. You will work as part of a team with medicines management technicians and assistants and supported by specialist pharmacists in each area. You will also have a 4‑month rotation at a neighbouring Mental Health Hospital, Foss Park Hospital, to gain mental health experience. A comprehensive induction, training and ongoing support is provided for all new staff. This post is based at York Hospital with core service hours of Monday - Friday 08:45am to 5:15pm and includes participation in the weekend, bank holiday and on-call rotas.
