GSL Education are currently recruiting for an ASD Teaching Assistant (TA) to work in a primary school based in Sunderland, starting immediately. This role offers a rewarding opportunity to support pupils with ASD on a one-to-one basis or within small groups, helping them thrive in a nurturing school environment.
About the Role / Role Overview:
This is an exciting opportunity for an experienced ASD Teaching Assistant to join a highly supportive and welcoming primary school. You will play a vital role in the classroom, providing tailored support to pupils with ASD, helping them access learning and develop key social and academic skills. Working closely with the class teacher and SENCO, you will help ensure an inclusive and positive educational experience for every child.
Key Responsibilities of ASD TA:
* Provide 1:1 or small group support for pupils with ASD in a primary setting.
* Adapt learning materials and activities to meet individual needs and abilities.
* Promote emotional regulation, communication, and positive behaviour strategies.
* Work collaboratively with teachers, SENCOs, and outside professionals.
* Monitor progress and provide feedback to teaching staff and parents.
* Foster a calm and inclusive learning environment that encourages independence.
Requirements for the role of ASD Teaching Assistant (TA):
* Previous experience as an ASD Teaching Assistant or in a similar role, supporting children with ASD in a primary school setting.
* Knowledge of Autism Spectrum Disorder, and understanding of strategies and approaches to support children with ASD in a learning environment.
* Strong communication skills, with the ability to engage with both children and adults effectively.
* A patient, calm, and empathetic approach to working with children with complex needs.
* A relevant educational qualification (Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent), or a similar qualification in special educational needs.
* · Have an updated CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the update service (or be willing to apply for one).
