LGV Waste Collection Driver Contract Type: Temporary, Full-time Location: Barnsley, S71 Salary: £15.84 PAYE / £18.70 Umbrella per hour Working Hours: Tuesday to Friday, 4 x 9.25 hrs = 37 hrs per week Join our dedicated team in Barnsley as an LGV Waste Collection Driver, where you will play a crucial role in delivering council services and responding to community priorities. This position involves supervising waste crews and managing their day-to-day operations to ensure the efficient completion of the household waste collection service. Day-to-day of the role: Work as part of a multi-disciplinary team to deliver council services throughout the borough. Supervise waste crews and manage their day-to-day operational functions using paper records or electronic handheld devices. Undertake a wide range of physically and mentally demanding operational duties in all weather conditions. Ensure the safety of employees, colleagues, and the public, including children, during the waste collection process. Operate mechanical machinery to facilitate the emptying of refuse containers. Maintain the cleanliness, maintenance, and security of vehicles, plant machinery, and equipment. Provide excellent customer service, handling exchanges of information in a polite, courteous, and positive manner. Respond to minor requests for service delivery and escalate problems to supervisors or managers as necessary. Work under the guidance of a line manager, using personal initiative to deliver services to a professional standard within agreed procedures and timescales. Adapt to new priorities as directed by the line manager to ensure deadlines are met. Demonstrate safe working practices, provide advice, and train other employees, apprentices, trainees, and students as required. Required Skills & Qualifications: Valid UK driving licence to ‘Category C’ standard. Certificate of Professional Competence (CPC). Manual Handling training or willingness to undertake. Experience in a waste management environment and carrying out respective duties. Knowledge of Health and Safety and its application to daily duties.
