Critical Data Centre M&E Engineer – Slough

Salary: £60,000 PACKAGE
Hours: Continental Shift Pattern
Our client is a global data centre services organisation, expanding their presence, and requires multiple shift engineers at a newly built data centre in Slough. The role involves working on a continental shift pattern, covering 12-hour days and nights, and requires experienced multi-skilled building services or data centre engineers responsible for routine and reactive maintenance of electrical and mechanical systems in a highly critical environment. These co-location sites house servers for major organisations, making uptime essential.
The salary guideline is up to £60,000 basic, with an annual bonus based on total earnings including overtime. There are opportunities for overtime, training, and progression into management. The organisation is a leader in the data centre sector with sites across the US and Europe, and this is a new site, offering a chance to be involved from day one. Duties:
1. Operate all M&E systems within the Data Centre effectively, including HV Electrical isolations/operations, and recommend improvements with technical reports.
2. Ensure all Specialist Sub Contractors' visits comply with Standard Operating Procedures.
3. Perform daily emergency callout tasks.
4. Complete logbooks and RAMS.
5. Apply risk-focused maintenance and operate plant and systems in critical environments.
6. Ensure client services, data networks, and revenue services meet requirements.
7. Provide emergency standby, escalate issues, and respond to outages per SLA.
8. Support technical audits related to critical environments.
9. Maintain records and logs demonstrating maintenance delivery.
10. Supervise contractors as needed.
11. Conduct emergency lighting testing.
12. Perform electrical work including lighting, wiring, alarm systems, BMS, and heat exchangers.
13. Demonstrate knowledge of AHU, FCU, UPS, Generators, LV systems, including fault finding.
14. Assess and escalate potential risks with impact analysis and mitigation.
15. Contribute to continuous improvement and ensure compliance with QHSE policies.
16. Assist the Shift Leader in daily operations and project works.
Requirements:
1. Trade trained with ideally 3 years’ experience in building services.
2. City & Guilds Qualified Electrical Level 3.
3. Experience on critical sites (Data Centre or Banking).
4. Strong building services knowledge.
5. Ability to lead a team under pressure, maintaining calm and delivering services within time constraints.
6. Willingness to attend on/off-site training, possibly requiring nights away.
