Overview
This is a new post for up to 10 Programmed Activities (PAs) per week, providing consultant input within the Medical Oncology Breast Disease Group. The medical oncologist appointed will work with the Breast team to provide a comprehensive clinical service for breast patients across outpatient, inpatient, and ambulatory settings, delivering Systemic Anti‑Cancer Therapy (SACT) and providing medical oncology input to the Breast MDT.
Responsibilities include management of breast patients receiving standard and clinical trials, contributing to acute oncology at Withington and Bolton, participating in clinical governance, and supporting research projects.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage breast cancer patients receiving standard therapy and clinical trials, including treatment decisions and ongoing care.
* Provide SACT delivery and medical oncology input to the Breast multidisciplinary team.
* Commit to acute oncology cover at Withington and at Bolton Hospital, including board and ward rounds.
* Participate fully in clinical governance: maintaining up‑to‑date protocols, guidelines, and clinical audit.
* Contribute to current research projects and help establish new opportunities to expand and develop research within the team.
* Revise and develop evidence‑based protocols for patients and undertake associated administrative duties.
* Maintain continuing professional development in line with the Royal College and Physicians recommendations.
* Contribute to undergraduate teaching of medical students on oncology topics.
* Actively train junior doctors and other multidisciplinary team members in both inpatient and outpatient departments.

The Disease Group has a strong emphasis on research with an active systemic therapy and radiotherapy trial portfolio supported by 7 research nurses and 5 clinical trial administrators. The Breast Disease Research Sub‑group meets bi‑weekly.
