The Role
Whether you’re a skilled mechanical engineer or looking to broaden your expertise into a multi‑skilled role, this is an opportunity to do meaningful work while developing your career.
We’re looking for a hands‑on Mechanical Field Service Engineer to join our team at Williamsgate. You’ll work in a modern, fast‑paced maintenance environment, helping to keep critical Water assets operating safely, efficiently, and in full regulatory compliance.
The role starts with a core mechanical focus, with clear scope to develop additional skills through structured on‑the‑job training and support. If you already bring secondary skills, we’ll value and build on them.
What You Will Be Doing
* Deliver planned and reactive mechanical maintenance across Water assets.
* Diagnose faults, carry out effective repairs, and return equipment safely to service.
* Maintain and improve asset reliability through proactive maintenance and root‑cause analysis.
* Ensure all work complies with Health & Safety legislation, environmental standards, and company policies.
* Accurately record asset performance, defects, and repair data within corporate systems.
* Contribute to continuous improvement initiatives and support capital and operational projects.
* Manage maintenance activities within agreed budgets where applicable.
* Work independently when required, while remaining an active and collaborative team member.
* Take part in the on‑call standby rota and work in confined spaces when necessary.
What We Are Looking For
* A full UK driving licence (a fully equipped company vehicle is provided for travel between sites).
* Time‑served apprenticeship or NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a mechanical discipline.
* Relevant industry experience within mechanical maintenance, engineering, or industrial environments.
* Strong fault‑finding, planning, and organisational skills.
* Hands‑on experience with mechanical assets such as pumps, gearboxes, valves, and rotating machinery.
* A willingness to develop additional skills and support a multi‑skilled maintenance approach.
About us
* A secure role supporting essential Water infrastructure.
* Structured training and development, with opportunities to become multi‑skilled.
* Company vehicle, tools, and technology to do your job safely and efficiently.
* A supportive team culture with clear expectations and professional standards.
* A competitive pay and benefits package, including standby/overtime arrangements and pension.
Why Join Us
You’ll be working on critical assets that protect the environment and serve local communities — with real opportunities to grow your skills, increase your technical value, and build a long‑term career in the water industry.
If you’re a capable mechanical engineer who wants responsibility, development, and meaningful work, we’d like to hear from you.
