Job Summary
Permanent, full‑time Senior Mental Health Practitioner – Assessment & Primary Intervention Team (APIT) within Barnsley CAMHS. Provide high‑quality mental health services to children and families, with a focus on timely assessments, brief interventions and collaborative care.
Key Responsibilities
* Conduct assessments and deliver treatment to children and young people with mental health needs, using evidence‑based practice and supervision from a senior clinician.
* Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams and external agencies, delivering risk screening, signposting and liaison with health, education and social care partners.
* Work on the CAMHS first‑on‑call rota, promoting the safeguarding and welfare of children and young people.
* Manage own caseload, providing supervision, training and support to junior members of staff and partner agencies.
* Participate in service development, audit, review and quality improvement activities, maintaining robust data collection and record keeping.
Qualifications & Experience
* Substantial post‑qualification experience working with children, young people and their families in a mental‑health or complex care setting.
* Proven multidisciplinary and inter‑agency working skills, including experience of supervising or mentoring junior staff.
* Comprehensive knowledge of relevant legislation and guidance – NHS plan, Mental Health Legislation, Children’s Act, Education Act, Working Together, Every Child Matters, NSPCC, and Equality & Diversity policies.
* Expertise in clinical/therapeutic mental‑health practice, assessment, risk management and implementation of evidence‑based interventions.
* Relevant professional qualification (e.g., nursing, psychiatric social work, counselling, or equivalent) and membership of a professional body.
* Desirable: further training in CAMHS, CBT, family therapy, or other specialised mental‑health programmes.

* Excellent communication, negotiation, record‑keeping and IT skills, including NHS systems.
* Willingness to be flexible and adapt to changing service priorities.
Other Requirements
