Psychological Therapist – Personality Disorder Pathway

We are inviting applications for a psychological therapist from a core professional background (e.g. CAPs, psychiatric nurses, social workers, OT's) to join our Personality Disorder Pathway in the South West of Hertfordshire. The post holder will be based in Watford and Borehamwood.

Working closely with local DBT leads, this post offers an exciting opportunity to join an established group of therapists who provide a local DBT service and join the wider network of therapists across the trust.

The post holder will provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment to clients with a diagnosis of personality disorder and will provide support, guidance and consultation to colleagues, carers and other agencies regarding the psychological care of clients.


Main duties

* Have good working relationships with multidisciplinary colleagues in the community mental health team setting.
* Maintain close working relationships with psychological therapy colleagues both locally and across the quadrant.
* Promote and maintain good working relationships with colleagues in the local hub, GPs and other stakeholders in the service.
* Work closely with psychological therapies staff and other non‑psychological therapy colleagues.
* Work autonomously within professional guidelines and the overall framework of the team's policies and procedures.
* Utilise research skills for audit, teaching, policy and service development and research within the area served by the team/service.
* Provide specialist psychological assessment and treatment, including a range of evidence‑based group and individual psychological interventions.
* Provide specialist support, guidance and consultation relevant to personality disorders on clients’ psychological care to other multidisciplinary professionals.

Contract & Compensation

* Band 6 – £38,682 to £46,580 per annum, pro‑rata.
* Permanent part‑time role (40 % – 60 %).
* Paid holiday, NHS pension and other benefits.


Person Specification – Essential

* Qualification and continuing registration in one of the core mental health professions (psychiatric nursing, clinical or counselling psychology, Clinical Associate in Psychology, social work or occupational therapy). Registration must be with the relevant body (NMC, HCPC etc.).
* Intensive DBT training or commitment to complete DBT intensive training and to achieve DBT accreditation when available.
* Experience of specialist psychological assessment and treatment across a range of care settings, including outpatient, community and inpatient services.
* Experience working with complex presentations including adults with personality disorders.
* Knowledge and understanding of trauma‑informed care.
* Experience of multidisciplinary team working and inter‑agency collaboration.
* Ability to teach and train others using complex multimedia materials.
* Awareness of Child and Adult Safeguarding Procedures and current NHS initiatives.
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team, including facilitating groups and providing consultation to other professionals.


Person Specification – Desirable

* Experience of service development and project management.
* Experience of service quality monitoring, clinical audit or evaluative research.
