Children and Young People with Cancer
Teenagers and Young Adults with cancer National Clinical Lead
2-year fixed term up to 2 sessions / PAs per week
THIS ADVERT IS FOR A SINGLE POST AND IS REPLICATED ON JOBTRAIN UNDER ALL NHS SCOTLAND HEALTH BOARDS
Following the publication in 2009 of ‘Better Health, Better Care – A National Delivery Plan for Children and Young People’s Specialist Services in Scotland’, a new service model for the delivery of specialist health services for all children in Scotland was confirmed. In designing the new service model, the Scottish Government established a Managed Service Network for Children and Young People with Cancer (MSN CYPC).
The current NHS Scotland cancer strategy for children and young people “Collaborative and Compassionate Cancer Care” was launched by the Cabinet Secretary for Health and Social Care in September 2021. The strategy highlights Scotland’s priorities for the next five years and provides clear obtainable aims to support the very best clinical outcomes, whilst putting the needs of the patient and their loved ones at the centre of their care. Previous cancer strategies have been published in 2012, and 2016.
This is an exciting, but challenging time for children and young people’s cancer services, in light of the increasing political interest in the provision of these services and a developing policy context. The MSN CYPC is seeking to appoint a Teenagers and Young Adults (TYA) National Clinical Lead to provide the necessary clinical expertise, strategic clinical leadership and direction to support the future development of TYA cancer services.
The TYA National Clinical Lead will champion TYA cancer services on behalf of the MSN CYPC. This role is crucial to the development and sustainability of national working. The post holder will chair the National TYA Multidisciplinary advisory Team or MDaT meetings, lead the TYA Clinical Advisory Group, lead on TYA aspects of other working groups (including after-care, paediatrics), and represent TYA interests for the MSN CYPC on national working groups and relevant meetings. The TYA National Clinical Lead will report directly to the National Clinical Director, working closely with the TYA National Lead Nurse, the National Network Manager and the National Nurse Consultant in the further evolution and development of the MSN CYPC.
The post holder will be currently working within clinical/medical paediatric, TYA or adult cancer services in Scotland and/or adult or paediatric cancer surgery. The successful post holder should have both the knowledge and skills to credibly champion the cause of the MSN CYPC across NHS Scotland. You will have strong communication and interpersonal skills. You will be able to demonstrate skill in leading and promoting collaboration across organisational and professional boundaries and have a deep understanding of the complexities of delivering cancer services to teenagers and young people. The appointment will be made on a secondment basis for a fixed term period of two years, in the first instance, with the possibility of extending for a further two years.
