Overview

A Vacancy at Norfolk and Norwich University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust.

We are an exceptional specialist Orthopaedic department with a worldwide reputation for innovation and excellent patient care and treatment. We currently have 5 operating theatres within our main theatre complex, with 2 theatres linked to our major trauma centre, and we are developing a stand-alone 2 theatre orthopaedic elective complex (NANOC). We have 37 orthopaedic consultants who specialise in all aspects of orthopaedic surgery, elective and trauma, making us one of the largest orthopaedic departments in the country with connections to overseas programs, local initiatives and research projects.

Responsibilities

* As a deputy team leader in orthopaedic practice you will be responsible for: Managing and coordinating the orthopaedic service; supporting the Clinical Leader in providing expert clinical practice in our highly specialist orthopaedic service.
* Assisting with the design, implementation and coordination of support and development programs for qualified practitioners, preceptors, learners and support workers within the specialist areas for recruitment, retention and skills improvement.
* Providing expert clinical advice, guidance, leadership and managerial skills to ensure delivery of a clinically effective service in line with local and national development plans and Trust policies and procedures.


Staff and Service Context

The orthopaedic theatre team consists of approximately 80 members of staff, including Registered Nurses, Operating Department Practitioners (ODP) who work in both surgery and anaesthetics, Nursing Associates (NA) and theatre support workers (TSW). All work to support multi-skilling and integration of theatre personnel. The role requires comprehensive leadership, effective management and coordination of the orthopaedic service to promote a patient-centered approach to high-quality health care while upholding professional and Trust values.

Further duties include supervising and maintaining high standards of patient care by demonstrating an understanding of the NMC/HPCP conduct and local codes of practice; assuming autonomous responsibility for patient care after handover from the anaesthetist and surgical team; collaborating with anaesthetists, relevant consultants and multidisciplinary care teams; and becoming proficient in caring for unconscious patients with reference to basic and advanced airway management after completion of competency skills. You will provide individualised assessment of patients to enable ongoing planning, development, implementation and evaluation of holistic care with continuous observation and monitoring of physiological parameters using non-invasive and invasive techniques.
