Job Description
PE Global is recruiting a Research And Product Development Technician for our industrial manufacturing client based in Peterborough. The role is an initial 12 month contract and the rate for this role is £19.29 PAYE or £26.18 Umbrella p/hour.
Responsibilities:
* Support advanced power system research and development programmes
* Build, strip, measure and test engines, powertrain, transmission and electrified systems
* Operate and support engine test beds and associated software
* Carry out electrical safety checks (e.g. insulation resistance, bonding, Hi-Pot)
* Execute test plans, collect and interpret data, and support technical sign-off
* Diagnose issues, raise build/test concerns, and support root cause analysis
* Work closely with engineers, suppliers, and internal stakeholders
* Support continuous improvement, safety, and quality processes
Requirements:
* Completed Electrical & Mechanical Engineering apprenticeship (or equivalent)
* Strong test bed experience (essential)
* Hands-on experience with diesel engines, powertrain and transmission systems
* Electrical/electronics background with 2–3+ years relevant experience
* Experience producing and analysing test data
* Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
* Strong problem-solving and practical diagnostic skills
* High commitment to health & safety
* Basic IT skills (Microsoft 365)
* Full UK driving licence (UK travel required)
Desirable:
* Experience with electrification, hybrid or high-voltage systems
* Familiarity with engine/transmission calibration or test software (e.g. CANape, service tools, AVL)
* Background in R&D, automotive, construction, HGV, or heavy engineering
* Experience with new product introduction (NPI) environments
