3 months contract with a Local Authority
Job Summary:
• This temporary position provides legal and administrative support within a Public Rights of Way (PRoW) service, covering legal processes and operational needs during a staff absence.
• The role includes casework involving statutory orders, legal advice, inter-agency coordination, and public engagement within the scope of rights of way legislation.
Key Duties/Accountabilities (Sample):
• Manage or assist in the full process of Definitive Map Modification Orders.
• Process orders under the Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
• Offer legal advice regarding Public Rights of Way matters to internal stakeholders.
• Undertake site visits to assess, record, or verify PRoW cases and orders.
• Collaborate with National Park Authorities and PRoW maintenance teams.
• Upload and maintain PRoW data using the CAMS database.
• Optionally act as Expert Witness at Public Inquiries.
Skills/Experience:
• Demonstrable working knowledge of PRoW legislation and legal procedures.
• Prior experience managing Definitive Map Orders and related casework.
• Strong legal advisory background, preferably within a Local Authority or similar public body.
• Familiarity with Highways Act 1980 and Town and Country Planning Act 1990.
• Competency using PRoW systems/databases like CAMS.
• Confident communicator with the ability to liaise across teams and organisations.
• Willingness and ability to conduct on-site inspections across geographical areas.
• Excellent organisational, written, and record-keeping skills.
• Capable of working independently with minimal supervision.
