A long-established UK financial services provider is looking to hire a Senior Data Engineer as part of a major data transformation journey. With over 150 years of history and a strong reputation in specialist lending and retail banking, the organisation is modernising its data infrastructure, migrating from legacy systems to a fully cloud-based Azure environment.
Role Overview
As a Senior Data Engineer, you’ll play a key role in supporting the business’s operational and strategic data needs. This role focuses on maintaining and evolving critical on-premise SQL Server data warehouses, while also contributing to wider data transformation initiatives. You'll work end-to-end across the data lifecycle, collaborating with cross-functional teams and engaging with stakeholders to design, document, and deliver robust data solutions. This is a hands-on, delivery-focused role within a collaborative and supportive team environment, where mentoring and knowledge-sharing are actively encouraged.
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
* Maintain and develop the on-premise SQL Server data warehouses that support daily business operations
* Translate business requirements into technical solutions and deliver high-quality, scalable data products
* Document and present technical designs to both technical and non-technical stakeholders for feedback and approval
* Collaborate with a team of 10 Data Engineers and work closely with the broader data function (Architecture, BI, Governance, etc.)
* Support project delivery by contributing to initiatives that improve data accessibility, reporting, and operational efficiency
* Mentor junior engineers, providing technical guidance and support in their development
* Participate in team meetings, solution design sessions, and peer reviews to ensure consistent quality and best practices
What you’ll need:
* Extensive experience in a data engineering role
* Deep knowledge of SQL Server, SSIS, and SSRS
* Experience working in regulated or financial environments
* Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills
