Job Summary
Under new leadership from Strategic Modern Matron, our Sexual Health service is being refocused and transformed with genuine investment from our Deputy Director of Nursing for Solihull and Community and the entire Executive leadership team. This isn't just talk—it's a recognition that this vital community service matters, and we're building something better.
We need Healthcare Assistants who understand what that means and want to be part of it. You'll work across eight locations in Birmingham and Solihull, including our City Centre hub on Whittle Street.
The environment sits somewhere between outpatients and ED fast‑paced, high‑demand, with services that range across the full spectrum of sexual health with over 250 patients attending daily.
You'll be trained across all our services to best support the people who rely on us. Training and development are delivered from our City Centre hub, so your willingness to adapt, learn, and move where you're needed is essential.
While we strive to offer flexible working arrangements for our staff, the needs of our patients across all sites determine how our service operates. This role requires full‑time commitment (37.5 hours per week) with Saturday working one in four weeks as part of the rotation.
Main Duties, Tasks & Skills Required
Because you'll be joining at a point where change is happening, leadership is present and engaged. According to the team, you'll be working with colleagues who are supportive, passionate, and willing to help. They are also fun and have a sense of humour, which, given the demands of the service, probably helps.
You will be clinic‑based, working with people at some of their most vulnerable moments. The nature of sexual health services means maintaining patient dignity and privacy during intimate examinations and procedures and supporting people through consultations that may be difficult or distressing. Your day‑to‑day work includes undertaking personal care, patient observations, specimen collection, and clinical procedures under supervision—requiring both technical competence and the ability to put patients at ease when they're most vulnerable.
This is care that matters to the communities we serve. If you're motivated by what you have read and you can bring the flexibility and commitment these patients deserve, we want to hear from you. Our values—Kind, Connected, Bold—guide how we work with patients and with each other. If that resonates with you, apply.
The successful candidate will be upgraded to Band 3 Healthcare Assistant after successful completion of training.
