Band 5 Scrub Practitioner (Nurse/ODP) - Podiatric Theatres
Our Podiatric Surgery department at Chelmsley Wood Primary Care Centre offers a unique opportunity to join our community team. This role goes beyond traditional theatre work, providing comprehensive pre‑ and post‑operative care and a holistic patient journey.
Key responsibilities
* Assist in managing and coordinating theatre and outpatient lists.
* Provide hands‑on care in nurse‑led outpatient clinics.
* Prepare equipment and instruments for surgical procedures.
* Support Podiatric Surgeons and Anaesthetists in theatre.
* Contribute to quality improvement initiatives.
* Mentor and support junior staff members.
Qualifications
* Adult Nursing Diploma – NMC registration up to date.
* Equivalent GCSE maths and English.
* Additional theatre qualifications or specialist courses (mentorship, leadership).
Experience
* Current or recent experience as a scrub nurse in a theatre environment.
* Ability to assess patient condition, interpret problems and determine timely action.
* Skill to assist surgeon and supervise non‑registered personnel in theatre.
* Understanding of infection control and peri‑operative care processes and documentation.
* Previous experience in podiatric, orthopaedic or day‑surgery theatre.
* Experience with minor surgery/local anaesthetic surgery.
Additional criteria
* Ability to maintain written and electronic notes.
* Ability to circulate in theatre when necessary.
* Effective communication and interpersonal skills.
* Teamwork in a multidisciplinary team.
* Remain calm under pressure.
* Flexibility and adaptability to changes in the job description.
* Willingness to travel to Chelmsley Wood Primary Care Centre, Crabtree Drive, Chelmsley Wood, Birmingham, B37 5BU.
* IT experience.
* Teaching and mentorship skills.
