Job summary
We are delighted to offer the position of a Consultant Urological Surgeon. We seek a motivated, skilled individual to join our busy, friendly, and innovative department. Excellent communication and teamwork are essential. All specialty interests will be considered, with particular value given to interests in benign prostate outlet surgery (including holmium laser enucleation, aquablation, and Rezūm) and/or paediatric urology. An interest in urological cancers, especially prostate and bladder, is also welcome.
We have a dedicated outpatient unit (UIU) at Paignton Hospital with space for outpatient clinics and procedures, including TP biopsy and TULA laser.
Main duties of the job
The successful candidates will assist in providing comprehensive general and specialised urology services for South Devon's population. We maintain close links, excellent working relationships, and established pathways with the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, the regional Pelvic Cancer Centre. There is an opportunity for cross-site working for suitably skilled candidates.
We are expanding our paediatric urology service across both Torbay and the Royal Devon & Exeter Hospital, and a special interest in this area would be welcomed. Both hospitals are conveniently located with excellent road links.
All specialty interests will be considered, with particular value placed on benign prostate outlet surgery and/or paediatric urology. Other sub-specialist interests will also be considered.
Effective communication and teamwork are vital. The successful candidates are expected to contribute to enhancing the department’s national profile.
About us
You will be involved in the on-call rota. Torbay shares out-of-hours services with the Royal Devon University Hospital in Exeter, currently covering one weeknight as part of a regional on-call. With two new consultant posts, Torbay will provide two nights per week on-call.
During weekdays, the on-call service at Torbay runs from 8 am to 6 pm, Monday to Friday, including Saturday morning ward rounds and on-call until 1 pm. After 1 pm on Saturdays, the service is provided by the regional on-call team based in Exeter.
You will work closely with consultant staff in related specialties, particularly general surgery. Contributions to audits and research are encouraged.
