About The Role
We have an exciting opportunity for a talented and motivated individual to join the Technical Services Team supporting the Department of Chemistry's Teaching Laboratories at the University of Warwick.
Reporting to the Deputy Technical Services Manager, you will be part of a team of Senior Teaching Lab Technicians and Technical Assistants who deliver high quality technical support to staff, students and visitors in the Department of Chemistry's Teaching Laboratories.
You will have experience of the delivery of a technical service in teaching laboratories and will be required to contribute to the smooth running of the Department's Teaching Laboratories, working flexibly with staff across the department and the wider technical services team to achieve a high standard of support for staff and students.
The post involves handling chemicals which cover a range of hazards, including toxic chemicals and corrosives, as well as cryogens and compressed gas cylinders. The role is active and laboratory‑based, requiring you to be on your feet for the majority of the day.
Although duties are laboratory‑based, this role does not involve conducting specialist research activities with research groups, teaching or demonstrating to students, and is fully on‑site with no remote or hybrid working.
Typical Duties
* Setting‑up experiments and laboratory equipment.
* Maintaining core infrastructure and facilities.
* Re‑organisation of laboratory space.
* Carrying out stock checks.
* Drafting risk assessments/SOPs.
* Handling and disposing of chemicals safely.
Qualifications and Experience
* Good honours degree in a related science (ideally Chemistry).
* Excellent customer service and interpersonal skills.
* Experience within a higher education environment.
* Up‑to‑date working knowledge of COSHH regulations.
* Desirable: an appropriate H&S qualification such as a NEBOSH general certificate.
* Ability to work independently and innovatively, meeting deadlines as part of a high‑performing team.
* A desire to work collaboratively within a busy, student‑focussed environment.
