We are seeking a Commercial Manager to lead the commercial function on a major Welsh Government contract. The role oversees a large and varied property portfolio, managing financial performance, reporting, supply chain activity and client relationships. This is a great step for an experienced commercial professional or Senior Quantity Surveyor ready to move into a management position.
Job Description
You will be responsible for all commercial activity across a long standing maintenance and minor works contract, covering more than 1,000 sites. This includes contract management, financial reporting, supply chain oversight and supporting operational colleagues. You will manage two Commercial Assistants and ensure accurate month end reporting using SAP and Excel. The role is office based with minimal travel and offers clear progression opportunities, including succession into senior leadership.
Key Responsibilities
* Lead the commercial function for the Welsh Government contract
* Act as the primary commercial contact for the client
* Manage two Commercial Assistants
* Oversee subcontractor procurement and commercial compliance
* Produce accurate month end reports using SAP and Excel
* Analyse large datasets and provide commercial insight
* Manage commercial risk, contracts and dispute resolution
* Support operational teams with financial and contractual guidance
* Contribute to improvements across commercial processes
* Assist senior management across additional contracts when needed
Essential Skills and Requirements
* Experience in commercial management or senior level quantity surveying
* Strong Excel capability including VLOOKUPs and pivot tables
* Knowledge of SAP or similar financial systems (training available)
* Strong commercial and contractual understanding
* Ability to work independently and handle complex workflows
* Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
* Degree in Quantity Surveying or Commercial Management (desirable)
* RICS accreditation or willingness to work towards it
* Full UK driving licence
* Welsh language skills are helpful but not required
