The Transpennine Route Upgrade Project (TRU) is a circa £2 billion multi-disciplinary project upgrading the existing railway route between Manchester and Leeds through the Pennines. It is the largest rail and infrastructure project in the north of England.
BAM Nuttall is seeking an experienced Senior Temporary Works Design Engineer to join their team on TRU West project. The role requires experience and expertise in civil engineering design for structures such as earthworks, earth retaining structures, foundations, structural steelwork, reinforced concrete, structural assessment, timber, and formwork/falsework.
Your mission
* Represent BAM TRU design department at internal and external meetings when necessary.
* Liaise with other departments and project teams regarding design requirements.
* Serve as the “key point of contact” when appointed as Designer for specific tasks.
* Arrange and undertake site visits as appropriate.
* Ensure work complies with BAM and TRU procedures.
* Prepare conceptual designs for safe, practical, and economical solutions according to current legislation.
* Develop detailed designs following current standards and codes.
* Review the design work of team members and external designers.
* Maintain design trackers with up-to-date data.
* Identify opportunities for process improvements.
* Engage in training and professional development proactively.
Who are we looking for?
* Proven experience with construction methods related to temporary works.
* Knowledge of BS5975 and the role of temporary works in project delivery.
* Experience working on rail projects and familiarity with NR Engineering Assurance standards.
* Degree in Civil Engineering or a related field.
* Chartered membership of ICE and/or IStructE.
Desirable qualifications:
* Knowledge of digital construction processes.
* Experience in training and coaching teams.
* Ability to manage a team.
* Experience as a CRE-D on rail projects.
