Overview
As a registered nurse you will be responsible for supporting your manager and colleagues in ensuring that service users needs are met through the delivery of safe, effective high-quality care. We are looking to welcome a professional and enthusiastic band 5 staff nurse.
We are seeking a nurse who is confident and self-motivated with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, as part of a multi-disciplinary team. The successful candidate must demonstrate a kind and compassionate attitude and have a desire to provide high quality and efficient care to women within the Gynaecology department.
We offer support and development to all of our nurses, including a period of supernumerary on commencement of employment, department specific training and appraisals.
The Gynaecology Inpatient Ward is a six bedded ward, with an Early Pregnancy Assessment Unit and Ambulatory Care Unit. We care for planned, emergency and outpatient activity 7 days per week. The successful candidate will have a responsibility for the assessment of care needs and the implementation of care, including discharge, and transfer of patients.
Responsibilities
* Assess care needs and implement care, including discharge planning and transfer of patients.
* Adhere to the NMC Professional Code of Conduct and Health and Safety procedures laid down by the Trust; report untoward incidents and complete appropriate documentation.
* Provide care to a range of patients including:
o Post-operative care for day case and major surgical operations.
o Care for patients with complications of early pregnancy including hyperemesis, miscarriage, ectopic pregnancy, molar pregnancy, and termination.
o Bereavement care for patients and relatives requiring palliative care or experiencing loss of pregnancy.
* Triaging of patients following department-specific processes and providing information and care accordingly.
* Work as part of a multidisciplinary team in sensitive and challenging situations; maintain excellent communication skills.
* Carry out duties according to local and national policies, procedures and guidelines; contribute to quality improvement and promote evidence-based practice.
* Attend required training and participate in appraisals and departmental development.
Qualifications and Skills
* Registered Nurse with current active NMC registration.
* Ability to work in a fast-paced environment as part of a multidisciplinary team.
* Kind, compassionate approach and a commitment to high-quality and efficient care.
* Excellent communication skills; ability to work with patients and families in sensitive situations.
* Commitment to following local and national policies, procedures and guidelines.
* Experience or interest in Gynaecology is desirable.
