Key Responsibilities To collect domestic or commercial refuse, either bagged or in containers, in a safe and efficient manner and in accordance with agreed procedures. To complete on a daily basis all duties given to you by your Driver/Chargehand, Supervisor or Manager, to the required standards. To be fully aware of all operations regarding the bin lifting and other relevant equipment and machinery, and to observe correct safety procedures and regulations in line with the Councils health and safety policy in order to ensure safe working practices are adhered at all times. To ensure the replacement refuse sacks to bin cupboards and to lock any bin cupboards or other storage area doors encountered during collections. To clean up any spillages encountered during refuse collections. To act as a banksman and assist the driver, by giving signals and signs when manoeuvring the vehicle in confined spaces or when reversing. To wear, at all times, appropriate uniform and PPE as supplied and in accordance and Health and Safety requirements. To observe correct safety procedures and to notify the Driver/Chargehand or your Supervisor or Manager of all, or potential, accidents, injuries or hazardous occurrences in line with the Councils health and safety policy. To notify the driver/chargehand of any damaged wheeled bins, heavy wheeled bins or other missed collections, and the reasons for such missed collections. To ensure all refuse is collected in accordance with agreed schedules either before or following a public bank holiday or any other interruption to the service. To communicate courteously with members of the public. Undertake any other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned from time to time, which are commensurate with the grade of the job. Qualifications and Experience Must have a Clean Valid Driving Licence. Experience in a waste related activities. Knowledge of waste collection practices. (Preferable) Communication skills. A good understanding of English written and verbal. Able to work outdoors in all weathers. Physically able to undertake work of an intensive and demanding nature, including lifting weights up to 25kg.
