Overview

This role is based in Guildford with full and part-time options. It requires travel to other offices within the Region (North Kent) and you will receive a travel allowance in accordance with the relevant financial year rate and contract terms. Flexible start times from 7:00 AM and finish times around 4:45 PM, with weekend shifts. Working patterns must include at least one weekend day; alternative days to be agreed with the successful candidate. A typical full-time 37-hour week is four days at 9.25 hours per day, including one weekend day; remaining days to be discussed based on operational delivery needs. A valid Manual driving licence is required.

Overview of the job: This is an operational role directly supervising work groups of offenders serving a community sentence. This may include driving service vehicles to transport people or equipment. The post holder will be responsible for all work site supervision tasks and will work with service users to ensure that tasks are carried out to the best of their ability. You will work alongside people to demonstrate good practice as necessary. Roles involve varied projects with practical tasks that contribute to reparation and public credibility as a punishment. The post holder will exercise appropriate authority to maintain discipline and will support service users to gain employment skills through positive work experience and training. Staff are expected to contribute towards continuous improvement and the evaluation of service delivery. Weekend work may be required as part of the normal pattern of work. The role may involve working with volunteers or staff from partner organisations.


Responsibilities, Activities & Duties

* Conduct Pre-Placement Unpaid Work Induction sessions.
* Conduct a start-of-day toolbox talk to explain tasks, safety, and motivate service users to complete their Order.
* Follow work directions within the project placement file.
* Ensure Health & Safety procedures are followed; alert relevant staff to risks and complete required paperwork, including contributing to risk assessments.
* Ensure appropriate tools, equipment and supplies are available and that safety instructions are followed.
* Conduct dynamic risk assessments to identify and manage hazards.
* Use pro-social and motivational techniques to ensure tasks are completed in a disciplined and well-behaved manner.
* Monitor attendance of service users and promote successful completion of placements.
* Maintain service users’ records in accordance with organisational requirements and update the case management system accurately and timely.
* Work towards accreditation as a workplace assessor or deliver training assessments for service users within the supervised work group.
* Contribute to promoting Community Payback with colleagues, external agencies, Sentencers and the public.

Qualifications & Experience

* UK Manual Driving Licence - Category D1 Minibus (full UK licence required).
* Experience of Practical Skills and commitment to teamwork.
* Effective interpersonal skills with the ability to supervise constructively while maintaining authority.
* Evidence of problem-solving in a workplace or similar environment.
* Knowledge of safety at work, public protection and risk of harm in all aspects of work.


Technical Requirements

* Basic knowledge of First Aid and willingness to undertake further training.
* Willingness to attain IOSH Level 3 or equivalent and attend further training.
* Willingness to achieve and maintain Level 3 Certificate in Assessing Vocational Achievement (CAVA) or equivalent.


Abilities

* Ability to model pro-social attitudes and behaviour to service users.
* Good written communication skills.
