Family Support Worker Location: Wakefield Client: Wakefield council Contract Type: Temporary ( Hours: Full time (37 hours per week) Salary: £16.10 per hour (Umbrella) Driving: Full UK Driving licence required. About the Role Wakefield Council is seeking a dedicated Children and Family Worker to support the Children in Care Teams. This role is based at Featherstone Town Hall and sits within the Safeguarding & Family Support service area. You will work in partnership with parents, carers, and professionals to provide support, guidance, and care to children and their families. A key part of the role involves supervising family time between children and their parents/families, so experience in this area is essential. Key Responsibilities Supervise family time between children and their families. Undertake direct work with children, young people, and their families. Provide information to assist in assessments and decision-making. Report safeguarding concerns to appropriate staff. Support families in developing positive relationships and social confidence. Transport and escort children and young people as required. Maintain accurate records in line with departmental standards. Attend and contribute to meetings relevant to the role. Promote high-quality services and continuous professional development. Comply with health and safety, confidentiality, and data protection policies.Experience & Knowledge Essential: Minimum 2 years’ experience working with children and families in difficulty. Experience in outreach or one-to-one work with parents/carers. Understanding of child development and essential needs. Awareness of safeguarding procedures and child care law. Knowledge of family stress factors and their impact.Desirable: Experience delivering group parenting programmes. Knowledge of interventions to support families.Skills & Competencies Strong interpersonal and communication skills. Ability to manage time and work flexibly. Sensitive and effective engagement with the public. Ability to build effective relationships with families and professionals. Good written and verbal communication.Additional Requirements NVQ Level 3 or equivalent (or willingness to work towards). Ability to travel; eligible for essential car user allowance.
