Our client is a leading Tier 1 contractor with a strong reputation for delivering complex infrastructure and water projects across the UK. With a focus on innovation, sustainability, and collaboration, they partner with major utilities and public sector bodies to deliver long-term framework and capital delivery programmes.
Due to continued growth and a strong project pipeline in the North West, they are looking to expand their commercial team with the appointment of both a Senior Quantity Surveyor and a Quantity Surveyor, based in Preston on a hybrid working model.
The Role
As a Quantity Surveyor or Senior Quantity Surveyor, you will play a key role in the commercial management of water infrastructure projects — supporting successful project delivery through sound financial control, contract management, and stakeholder collaboration.
You’ll be joining a well-established commercial team on long-term frameworks, offering stability, progression, and the opportunity to work on industry-leading sustainable infrastructure.
Key Responsibilities
* Manage the commercial and contractual aspects of projects from inception through to final account.
* Administer NEC contracts, ensuring compliance with contractual obligations.
* Provide accurate cost forecasting, value management, and financial reporting.
* Prepare and assess interim valuations, variations, and compensation events.
* Support procurement activities including subcontractor selection and negotiation.
* Work closely with project delivery teams to ensure cost efficiency and value optimisation.
* Contribute to risk management and cost mitigation strategies.
* Mentor and support junior commercial staff (for Senior QS role).
* Liaise with clients, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders to maintain strong working relationships.
Requirements
* Degree qualified (or equivalent) in Quantity Surveying, Commercial Management, or a related discipline.
* Proven experience as a QS or Senior QS within the civil engineering or water/utilities sector.
* Strong working knowledge of NEC contracts.
* Excellent analytical, negotiation, and communication skills.
* Proficient in cost management systems and MS Office applications.
* Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
* Full UK driving licence and willingness to travel to site as required.
