Job Description

New Directions Education are working with a brilliant Primary School on the Wirral who are looking to appoint a dedicated Full-Time Teaching Assistant to join their Year 5 class from September 2025 on a long-term basis.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work as part of a supportive Key Stage 2 team and make a real difference to pupils’ learning and development.

Role Responsibilities:

1. Supporting the Year 5 class teacher with day-to-day classroom activities
2. Working with small groups and individuals to boost learning and confidence
3. Providing focused interventions in Maths, English and other curriculum areas
4. Encouraging positive behaviour and building strong relationships with pupils
5. Helping prepare resources and support classroom organisation

About You:

6. Previous experience in Key Stage 2 (ideally in Year 5 or upper KS2)
7. A Level 2 or Level 3 TA qualification (or equivalent experience)
8. Confident supporting pupils both academically and emotionally
9. Proactive, reliable, and passionate about supporting children’s learning
10. Available full-time from September 2025

Job Specification

Teaching, Learning or Classroom Assistants are now vital resources for teachers and are heavily relied upon in schools.

We specialise in recruiting Teaching Assistants (TA) who are qualified in the following;

11. NVQ Level 2 Teaching Assistant
12. NVQ Level 3 Teaching Assistant
13. Higher Level Teaching Assistant (HLTA)
14. CACHE Level 3 in Childcare & Education
15. BTEC National Certificate in Childhood Studies (Nursery Nursing).

We’ll also consider experienced Learning Support Assistants (LSAs) who have previously held a job in a primary school or assisted a pupil in the role in a secondary school but do not hold any of the above qualifications.

Jobs in additional learning needs (ALN)

A large number of our jobs are in ALN and we fill many vacancies in schools with candidates who have particular experience in working with children classified as having:

16. Autistic Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
17. Dyslexia
18. Dyspraxia
19. Multi-Sensory Impairment (MSI)
20. Moderate Learning Difficulties (MLD)
21. Profound and Moderate Learning Difficulties (PMLD)
22. Emotional Behavioural Difficulties (EBD)
23. Severe Learning Difficulties
24. Physical Disabilities (PD).

As a teaching assistant you’ll be expected to:

25. Assist in the educational and social development of pupils under the direction and guidance of the head teacher, ALNCO and class teachers
26. Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programmes (IEP) for students and help monitor their progress
27. Provide support for individual students inside and outside the classroom to enable them to fully participate in activities
28. Assist class teachers with maintaining student records
29. Support students with emotional or behavioural problems and help develop their social skills.
