Worcestershire Acute Hospitals NHS Trust

Specialty Doctor – Ophthalmology

The closing date is 16 April 2026

An exciting opportunity has arisen for a motivated and experienced doctor to join the Ophthalmology team at Worcestershire Acute Hospitals as a Specialty Doctor. The post holder will work within a multidisciplinary ophthalmology service providing high‑quality care to patients across a range of subspecialties.

The successful candidate will contribute to elective outpatient clinics, support the delivery of safe, effective, and patient‑centred ophthalmic care. The role includes opportunities to develop surgical skills, manage patients independently within agreed competencies, and work closely with consultant ophthalmologists and other healthcare professionals.

You will play an important role in maintaining clinical standards, participating in teaching, audit, and service development, while helping the department meet service demands and improve patient outcomes. The post also involves participation in the departmental rota and supporting the wider ophthalmology service within the Trust.

This role offers an excellent opportunity for doctors who wish to broaden their clinical and surgical experience in ophthalmology within a supportive NHS environment.

Main duties of the job

* Attend multidisciplinary meetings and work within multidisciplinary teams to deliver high‑quality clinical care across three sites, with potential for expansion to GP surgeries and health centres.
* Support the A&E department and acute medicine to ensure timely and appropriate care and patient flow through the hospital.
* Offer consultation and advisory services to clinical colleagues in the Trust and in Primary Care.
* Attend cross‑county and cross‑site meetings.
* Collaborate with colleagues to deliver a high‑quality, timely service and move towards meeting the Trust's and departmental objectives.
* Participate in the middle‑grade on‑call rota, ensuring both emergency and urgent services are provided outside normal hours, shared equally with colleagues.
