We’re looking for an experienced countryside ranger who’s ready for a new challenge.
You’ll work at the forefront of nature conservation and land management, in a landscape that’s crucial for wildlife to thrive, and welcomes everyone.
This is a great opportunity to utilise your skills and contribute to the essential work we’re doing.
What it's like to work here
Situated near Surrey’s Harewoods Estate, which consists of about 2600 acres of tenanted mixed farmland, woodland, and common land.
If you like the great outdoors, you will love this stunning location with its hidden woodlands, lush green meadows, tranquil ponds, and an ancient common—perfect for walks and observing colourful wildlife.
We’re a close-knit, small team in a truly idyllic location, and you’ll play a crucial role in preserving natural environments and ensuring visitors have a safe and enjoyable experience.
Due to the nature of the role, a full UK driving licence is essential.
This is a full-time, permanent position, with weekend work on a rota basis as required.
What you'll be doing
You’ll have a variety of responsibilities focused on protecting and managing natural and cultural resources.
As the Area Ranger, you’ll lead a small team of volunteers, working alongside you, following the Property’s Business plan and the new National Trust Strategy. You'll support fellow rangers with engagement, conservation, and compliance activities.
You will also maintain high standards of property presentation and maintenance, aiming to meet Conservation Performance Indicator targets.
Developing strong professional relationships with colleagues, contractors, tenants (especially farmers), and neighboring land managers will be key.
You will help communicate Harewoods' conservation efforts to diverse audiences through events, guided walks, and community engagement initiatives.
Understanding the importance of generating income from our countryside sites, your business ideas will be vital to the team’s success.
You can view the full role profile in the attached document. You don’t need to have all the listed skills and experience; this is to give a full picture of what’s possible in this role.
