About the role
The post holder will work as part of the maternity Governance team to support the delivery of safe, high-quality care across the service. The post holder will contribute to developing a strong patient safety culture, using evidence-based practice, lessons learned and data analysis to identify themes, improve standards, and prevent avoidable harm.
The post holder will support the implementation and monitoring of effective governance, risk, and quality improvement systems, working collaboratively with the quality and safety teams, multidisciplinary colleagues and women’s services management, to ensure effective communication systems are in place and to ensure excellent standards of care and compliance with national and local standards.
Main duties
* Support the implementation of Trust governance frameworks within maternity.
* Assist in the review, monitoring and dissemination of national and local policies, clinical guidelines and safety alerts.
* Support Duty of Candour processes, providing guidance to staff and ensuring timely communication with patients and families.
* Use incident data, audits, morbidity & mortality, and dashboards to identify trends, risks and improvement opportunities.
* Maintain databases of adverse outcomes, incidents and service reviews.
* Contribute to the development of monthly, quarterly and annual governance reports.
* Participate in local review processes, including morbidity and mortality meetings, and support dissemination of learning.
* Escalate governance or safety concerns to senior leaders as appropriate.
Essential person specification requirements
* Registered Midwife/ BSC/1st degree (health related) or equivalent qualification/training and experience
* Evidence of ongoing professional and personal development
* Demonstrable experience in all aspects of maternity
* Recent experience working as a qualified midwife in a clinical setting.
* Experience participating in incident investigations, reporting or governance processes.
* Competent to ensure the delivery of evidence-based practice.
* Demonstrates a broad knowledge of current nursing / midwifery issues
* Demonstrable experience in developing self and others and changing practice.
