Applications are sought from staff members supported by their line management who can fulfil the essential criteria. The position will be based at Stowmarket Police Station.

The Serious Collision Investigation Unit (SCIU) is part of the Joint Major Investigations Team within the Protective Services Department. The unit is responsible for:

* The attendance and investigation of fatal road collisions within the counties of Norfolk and Suffolk.
* The investigation of complex serious injury collisions
* The preparation of prosecution cases and Coroners cases for the relevant courts.
* The post holder may be required to work in difficult and emotive conditions whilst working to strict deadlines. All files and reports must meet the standards directed by CPS and the Norfolk and Suffolk Coroners.
* There is a requirement for staff to pass the standard police driving course and attend fatal collision scenes to undertake initial investigations and assist in scene management.
* The post holder may be required to attend Home Office Post Mortems on an infrequent basis.

It is essential that applicants meet the following criteria:

* Initial Crime Investigation Development Programme (ICIDP) or the ability/willingness to achieve the qualification (training provided
* Demonstrate understanding of serious collision file preparation and road death investigation procedures
* Demonstrate an investigative ability with complex investigations
* Working knowledge of court procedures and presenting evidence at criminal/coroners court
* Working knowledge of relevant Law and Force Policies
* Keyboard skills and working with Microsoft office suite
* The post holder will be based in Stowmarket but may be required to fulfil travel requirements across Norfolk and Suffolk (vehicles provided)

It is desirable that applicants meet the following criteria:

* Experience interviewing victims and witnesses
* Experience in interviewing suspects

Staff who are not PIP2 trained must be willing to undertake further training and development to meet PIP2 standards of investigation which includes passing the National Investigators Examination.

Hours of work are 37 hrs per week working standard officer hours. No shift or antisocial hours allowances are payable except in the event of an ongoing incident or operation.
