Menswear Assistant Designer - Outlets – Full-Time
Location: Kingston-on-Thames
Crew Clothing Company was founded in Salcombe in 1993. Today Crew is a great British brand, and our success lies in our authentic passion for producing great looking, well-made clothes. We now have more than 110 stores and a thriving website, and the business continues to grow.
We are looking for a Menswear Assistant Designer to join the outlet team and be responsible for the design and design pack setups for all Menswear product in Outlet. This comprises a mix of new versions of previous Prime bestsellers and driving newness to cater to a younger, wider customer base, while maintaining commercial balance.
Purpose of the role
To support the design function in delivering a commercial and well-crafted menswear range for Outlet, under the direction of the Senior Designer and Head of Design.
Responsibilities
* Designing and developing a full range with direction from the Senior Designer and Head of Design.
* Researching sales figures, seasonality, trend, and yarn development to inform a commercial balanced range.
* Presenting range concepts to management at sketch reviews.
* Creating accurate design packs and coordinating with suppliers to ensure samples are delivered on time.
* Ensuring Crew Clothing Core ranges and continuity products remain relevant and commercially viable.
Key Accountabilities
* Own key areas within menswear Outlet.
* Meet all critical path deadlines and secure a full range of samples for sign-off.
* Follow the seasonal process from concept to product handover.
* Attend first fittings to ensure design intent is met.
* Collaborate closely with Buying, Merchandising, and Tech teams.
* Proactively gather sales and brand knowledge to build a balanced range.
* Maintain a high level of creativity in line with business objectives.
Cross-functional Working
* Work with Merchandising to balance the range and understand constraints.
* Collaborate with Buying to build a commercial range within the overall business context.
* Coordinate with Tech teams to ensure fit quality and design intent.
* Raise concerns about potential issues with suppliers/factories or internal teams to the line manager to resolve.
* Collaborate with the design team on joint projects and ranges to ensure smooth department operation.
* Respond to sales trends and manage in-season opportunities with Buying and Head of Design.
* Lead by example in meeting deadlines and delivering creative, sales-focused results.
Skills & Experience
* Minimum 1 year of experience in a similar brand or retailer in a Design Assistant capacity.
* Relevant professional experience or qualifications.
* Strong communication and influencing skills with the ability to collaborate effectively.
* Computer literacy (Adobe Illustrator and Photoshop, Microsoft Word, Excel).
* Understanding of knitted garment construction, pattern cutting, and finishing.
* Excellent eye for detail and quality.
