We are excited to announce that we are recruiting into a 12 month secondment post (18.75 hours/2.5 days per week) Practice Educator position. This internal developmental opportunity is within the Centre for Clinical Education and Professional Development (Daisy Hill House) but is a mobile worker profile covering both inpatient and community mental health settings.
The applicant will need to be a registered mental health nurse with significant experience of working within mental health services (at least 3 years post registration). The applicant must also be able to demonstrate skills in delivering and evaluating education and have considerable experience in supporting student nurses in a Practice Assessor capacity and preceptee nurses as a preceptor.

Main duties of the job
The post holder will support newly qualified nurses imparting their knowledge, skills and experience through coaching and supporting them across their preceptorship programme. They will need to demonstrate empathy and patience, be passionate about the profession and be able to provide pastoral support to others. This role is key in supporting newly qualified colleagues to stay and stay well. Practice Educators need to be confident in building relationships and collaborating with others. They will be providing coaching and mentoring and will be given any necessary training to develop this skill.
In addition to providing support and education to newly qualified nurses, the post holder will also support practice placements for learners, provide visible and accessible support and education to student nurses and work closely with other Practice Educators within the Centre for clinical education and professional development across mental health/wider nursing services to ensure consistency of support.

Experience
Essential criteria
1. 3 years minimum post registration experience
2. Robust experience of supporting and assessing learners in the practice setting as a Practice Assessor and supervisor
3. Experience of facilitating group and individual learning sessions and assessing the effectiveness of teaching delivered and knowledge and skills acquisition
4. Presentation and lesson planning skills
Qualifications
Essential criteria
5. Registered Mental health Nurse (RMN)
6. Active registration with the Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
7. Evidence of Continued Professional Development that supports clinical practice at Level 6 .
8. First degree
Desirable criteria
9. Post graduate qualification or equivalent experience
Training
Essential criteria
10. Recognised teaching and assessing qualification/experience of being a mentor/practice supervisor and practice assessor to pre registration student nurses
Knowledge
Essential criteria
11. Knowledge of the NMC Future Nurse standards and proficiencies
12. Knowledge of the role of a newly qualified nurse within mental health inpatient services
