This is an exciting opportunity for a passionate and motivated haematology/haemophilia nurse to join the dedicated Haemophilia team at University Hospitals Birmingham. We are a regional Adult Comprehensive Care Centre, providing expert advice and care to patients across the wider West Midlands region. The role will comprise both community based care, either in the patient's home or visits to other hospital sites, and on the Haemophilia Unit based at QEHB. There will be opportunities to work autonomously, carrying out independent assessments and triage, and reviewing patients in the nurse led clinic. The successful candidate will be supported by the wider multidisciplinary Haemophilia team, including the CNS team, Haematology Lead Nurse and Matron, Clinical Fellow, Social Worker, Clinical Psychologists and HLT Consultants.

It is an essential requirement applicants have a valid full driving licence and access to a car. Successful candidates will be supported to complete their health assessment course if not already completed. This is a part-time role for 24 hours a week


Main duties of the job

* Undertake independent, advanced clinical assessments for patients with IBD (inherited bleeding disorder) and acquired diagnosis
* Administration of treatment
* Undertake autonomous reviews, patient triage, and education
* Review patients in the nurse led clinic
* Review inpatients with both new and existing diagnosis of a bleeding disorder at UHB
* Psychosocial support, including to family members
* Patient education to self-administer factor
* Support for the infected blood community, including support for bereaved families for up to 2 years
* Review patients admitted to neighbouring Trusts for surgical procedures to administer factor and educate staff; take factor levels pre and post procedure with rapid access to results from UHB laboratory; ensure management of stock in blood banks
* Support transition clinics at Birmingham Children's Hospital
* Liaise with neighbouring Trusts the management of factor concentrates held for emergency use
* Management for acquired bleeding disorders reducing hospital admissions
* Attend joint MDT meetings with ENT, Dental and Gynaecology clinics
* Support with data entries into haemtrack, HCIS and National Haemophilia Database
* Provide education for internal and external staff

Qualifications

* Registered Nurse with valid NMC
* registration
* Educated to degree level or
* Portfolio of certified / accredited post

* Health Assessment post graduate qualification / willingness to work towards


Experience

* Post registration experience with evidence of knowledge and development for the associated area of specialist practice.
* In depth knowledge of specialist procedures required for role, with willingness to undertake further training/ education to achieve agreed level of competence.
* Knowledge of standards and policies associated with role.
* Experience of working in a multidisciplinary and cross agency work.
* Demonstrable understanding of the national / NHSE diagnostic/ therapeutic expectations / strategy around endoscopy services and can relate this to the role.
* Demonstrable understanding of clinical governance / patient safety processes – can relate this to the role in relation to their personal/professional accountability.
