About the role

We are seeking an exceptional individual to join the University of Leicester as an Associate Professor in Behaviour Change and Vascular Sciences. This full‑time, fixed‑term post until 30 September 2030 will be based within the Division of Cardiovascular Sciences and will play a pivotal role in the NIHR Research Professorship led by Professor Athanasios Saratzis. The successful candidate will provide strategic leadership in psychology and behavioural science, contributing to the design, implementation and evaluation of complex interventions aimed at improving the management of peripheral arterial disease and related vascular conditions. Working collaboratively with a multidisciplinary team, the post‑holder will ensure that behavioural theory and evidence underpin all aspects of the research programme, with a strong emphasis on patient‑centred care and translational impact.

Responsibilities

The role offers a unique opportunity to lead methodological innovation and intervention mapping across multiple research work packages. The Associate Professor will also contribute to academic leadership through the supervision of doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, mentorship of early‑career colleagues, and the development of national and international collaborations. This position supports the University’s strategic themes of "World Changing Research" and "Our Citizens", and reflects our commitment to inclusive, impactful research that benefits society.

About you

You will hold a PhD in psychology, behavioural medicine, health sciences or a closely related discipline, with a strong track record of applied research in health psychology, behaviour change or intervention development. Your expertise in designing and evaluating complex interventions in healthcare settings will be complemented by experience working within multidisciplinary teams and engaging with patient and public contributors. You will have a proven ability to disseminate research findings to academic, clinical and lay audiences, with demonstrable impact on practice, policy or service delivery.

We are looking for a candidate with excellent organisational, communication and interpersonal skills, who can lead and inspire others. Experience with NIHR‑funded research, implementation science, and familiarity with vascular disease or long‑term condition management would be advantageous. You will be committed to equity, diversity and inclusion, and will actively contribute to the University’s vibrant academic community. This is an exciting opportunity to shape the future of behavioural science in vascular research and to make a meaningful contribution to global health.
