About the role:
We are supporting an alternative provision in Grimsby that works with students who present with a range of SEND, including SEMH needs. The setting focuses on helping young people re‑engage with learning through personalised support, structured routines and positive relationships.
We are looking for a SEND Specialist to provide consistent, targeted support to learners who require additional help to access education effectively.
Key Responsibilities
* Provide 1:1 and small‑group support to students with SEND needs, helping them engage with learning and manage the demands of the school day.
* Use calm, trauma‑informed and needs‑led strategies to support emotional regulation, reduce anxieties and promote positive learning behaviours.
* Work closely with teaching staff to adapt activities, break down tasks and ensure students can participate meaningfully in lessons.
* Build strong, trusting relationships with learners to help them feel safe, understood and able to make progress.
* Support the implementation of EHCP strategies, behaviour plans and personalised learning approaches.
Pre‑requisites
* Experience supporting children or young people with SEND or SEMH needs in schools, alternative provision, PRUs or similar environments.
* Strong understanding of how additional needs impact engagement, behaviour and learning.
* Ability to remain calm, patient and consistent, using trauma‑informed approaches when responding to emotional or behavioural needs.
* Confidence in adapting tasks, modelling strategies and encouraging participation in a supportive, structured way.
