If so, GSL Education are seeking a dedicated SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) to join schools in Epworth. As a SEMH Teaching Assistant, you’ll play a vital role in supporting students who may face emotional or behavioural challenges, helping them navigate school life and achieve their potential. This involves working one-to-one or with small groups of pupils to support their emotional well-being, behaviour regulation, and academic progress. You'll assist the class teacher in maintaining a positive learning environment, ensuring pupils are supported both academically and personally to achieve their full potential. Responsibilities of an Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) Teaching Assistant : Provide tailored 1:1 or small group support to pupils with SEMH needs Assist in the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEPs), EHCPs, and behaviour plans Support classroom activities under the direction of the teacher and SENCO Use strategies to manage challenging behaviour and promote positive interactions Monitor and record pupil progress, emotional responses, and incidents for safeguarding Encourage pupil engagement and help develop confidence, self-esteem, and independence Liaise with teaching staff, parents/carers, and external professionals where necessary Help create a calm and safe learning space, supporting pupils’ social and emotional regulation SEMH Teaching Assistant (SEMH TA) Requirements: Experience working with children or young people with SEMH or behavioural difficulties Good knowledge of safeguarding practices and de-escalation strategies Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond with empathy Relevant qualifications such as CACHE Level 2/3, NVQ, or a degree in Psychology/Education (desirable) Have an up-to-date CV (covering the last ten years, barring any unexplained gaps) and an enhanced DBS registered to the Update Service (or be willing to apply for one) Why Join GSL Education?
