The Position
The post holder will work as part of the Emergency Department multidisciplinary team, liaising effectively with colleagues and service users to support the delivery of care. Working under the direction of qualified practitioners, the role will provide support across a range of clinical and administrative tasks. The position includes a rotational requirement to support the Emergency Department reception, providing front‑desk duties as needed.
The Candidate
Experience working with people in a care setting, ideally within a health‑support or relevant social care environment, is required. Hold an SVQ3 in Health & Social Care, or demonstrate equivalent competence through experience. Knowledge of confidentiality, infection control and data protection is essential, along with good organisational skills and basic computer literacy. Strong written and verbal communication skills, teamwork, and the ability to work independently with minimal supervision are required.
Location, Working Pattern and Contract Duration
This post will be based at The Balfour. Fixed‑term contracts of 12 months are available to cover maternity leave. Options include part‑time or full‑time (maximum 36 hours per week) contracts, with a total of 70 hours to appoint.
Applicants must be a resident of the UK for the duration of the post with NHS Orkney.
Benefits and Salary
The salary is Band 3. Residents of Orkney receive a Distant Islands Allowance of £1,719 pro rata per annum, in addition to a pension scheme, work‑life balance policies, an employee assistance programme and discounts to local and national retailers.
