An exciting post has arisen for a Clinical Nurse Endoscopist as Stockport NHS Foundation Trust.

You will be competent and JAG accredited at undertaking diagnostic gastroscopies, sigmoidoscopies and colonoscopies independently. Ideally you will have completed your nurse prescriber course. You will work with the MDT and contribute to the development, management and delivery of a high quality general and specialist mixed GI endoscopy service.


Main duties of the job

The successful applicant will be allocated up to 4 endoscopy lists a week over a 6 day week as required. This will include a range of duties such as evenings and weekends. The post holder will work as an autonomous practitioner to carry out endoscopies as well as administer conscious sedation. They will be able to identify abnormal pathology, perform biopsies and act on these accordingly within Trust protocols.

They will be a supportive and leading role for the rest of the team and contribute to the development of pathways and protocols to keep up to date with the latest guidance and national standards. They will be expected to contribute to audit work and present at various forums.

The successful candidate must be JAG accredited and use the JETS system to maintain their portfolio.

Job responsibilities

Undertake diagnostic and therapeutic upper and lower GI endoscopy using advanced and specialist skills in endoscopy as an independent autonomous practitioner in accordance with defined protocols. Working within endoscopy the post holder will identify the need for and request further investigations as appropriate and advise on further investigations required. The post holder would provide regular endoscopy sessions and on a flexible basis to cover unfilled lists. The post holder will provide professional leadership by personal example and ensure the delivery of a high quality, patient centred service across endoscopy services. The post holder will take part in the units Global Rating Scale process and standards and have the ability to develop services, and assist with the achievement of JAG accreditation.The nurse endoscopist will act as the clinical expert and professional resource to the multiprofessional team, patients and carers within their specialist service. His/ her own working practice should be developed to a level whereby they can directly or indirectly influence all aspects of care and management of patients within the speciality. The post holder will ensure the delivery of high quality, clinically effective care, prioritising and utilising research and collaborating with colleagues in everyday practice. The role involves clinical leadership, working in partnership to enhance professional standards of care across the speciality.Be involved in the development of endoscopy pathways and review of departmental policies and procedures in line with BSG and JAG requirements. The Endoscopist will have the opportunity to develop a sub-specialist interest and be supported by the endoscopy lead.

If successful this vacancy will require a Standard DBS check at a cost of £26.50. This cost will be deducted from your first Trust salary

In addition to this it will be a condition of your employment that you will join the DBS update service and pay the annual subscription fee of £16.

Person Specification


Qualifications

* Registered nurse with UK registration
* JAG accredited and independent scopist
* Evidence of relevant study/CPD
* Registered non medical prescriber


Knowledge

* Knowledge of JAG/JETS
* Computer literacy with various systems
* Evidence of presentation skills/audits


Experience

* Knowledge of clinical governance
* Knowledge of national and local targets
* Ability to work autonomously and as part of a team
* Ability to present to a team.


Skills

* Higher level of judgement, decision making and management
* Evidence of being an effective leader, team player and positive approach
* Can manage own caseload and communicate with the wider MDT
* Flexible and adaptable to needs of service
* Can manage stress and work under pressure
* Awareness of change management


Disclosure and Barring Service Check

This post is subject to the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act (Exceptions Order) 1975 and as such it will be necessary for a submission for Disclosure to be made to the Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly known as CRB) to check for any previous criminal convictions.

£55,690 to £62,682 a yearper annum pro rata
