Senior Nurse / Paramedic practitioner

Please note: at this stage, the role is open only to colleagues currently employed within Kent and Medway NHS Trusts, the Kent and Medway Integrated Care Board (ICB) and Medway Community Healthcare. Nursing vacancies are also open to Student Nurses and Newly Qualified Nurses.

As a senior member of the Urgent Treatment Centre, you will be expected to manage the assessment, diagnosis and the implementation of a range of highly specialised care for patients presenting with undifferentiated and undiagnosed problems visiting the unit.

To provide clinical expertise, professional leadership and education, ensuring high standards of evidence‑based practice at all times.

Manage the unit on a day-to-day basis in the absence of the Operational Lead.

Many aspects of the work will be complex, with the post holder being expected to prioritise their work in the face of competing demands for their time and limited resources.

Take lead responsibility for an area of practice, liaising with leads on other sites and attending relevant meetings and disseminating information to team members.


Main duties of the job

We are looking for a band 7 Senior Nurse / Paramedic Practitioner with proven leadership skills who can work within a multidisciplinary team to deliver a high standard of patient focused care within the standards set out by both government and trust policies. The department can be busy and diverse in an ever-changing environment and we are looking for highly motivated members, to join our team, who are adaptable to clinical change on a shift basis. You should have the ability to work autonomously, think on your feet and take responsibility for the unit, being willing to develop and expand your clinical practice within the service guidelines. Job responsibilities

Person Specification


Education & Qualification

* First Level Registered Nurse / Registered Paramedic HPC
* Degree or relevant experience.
* ENB 998/Preparation for mentors
* Evidence of relevant specialist courses and continuing professional development (minor illness/minor injury at degree level)
* A&E radiology, Imaging Regulation and Initial
* Leadership or similar management course
* Evidence of autonomous practice Masters Degree


Additional Education & Qualification

* Immediate Life Support – adults and children defibrillation
* Proven record of mandatory training
* Child and adult protection knowledge
* Human resource issues (appraisal, recruitment and absence management)
* Completed Recognition of the sick child training


Experience

* Experience working in an Urgent Treatment Centre
* Professional knowledge and competence in the autonomous management of undifferentiated patients, recognising limitations of the role and personal accountability.
* Administration of medications within Patient Group Directions (PGD's)
* Management of patients with minor injuries and minor illnesses
* Personal achievement at work
* Nominated Officer for fire and Emergency
* Planning Training
* Human resource issues (appraisal, recruitment and absence management)
* Experience of budget control


More Experience

* Organisational responsibilities
* Experience of dealing with difficult, complex and sensitive situations
* Currently working at Senior band 6 or 7 level, working within an MIU, WIC, UCC or A&E department
* Complaints handling and investigation, experience of audit
* RCA/Investigation training
* Participation in Learning and Development activities


Skills

* Able to undertake assessment and treatment of patients including ordering and interpreting relevant investigations (e.g. x-rays)
* Highly developed advanced physical skills in hand‑eye coordination when speed, precision and dexterity are required (e.g. suturing and application of plaster of paris)
* Computer literacy, able to present information logically and concisely both written and verbally
* Excellent interpersonal skills – able to communicate with staff at all levels, other disciplines and with patients, relatives, carers and the multidisciplinary team
* Able to communicate complex and sensitive issues including barriers to understanding requiring empathy and negotiation skills
* Team management
* Chairing/attending meetings as required
* Clinical supervision


Additional Skills

* Able to teach, supervise and facilitate others in all aspects of patient care within the service
* Able to inspire confidence in patients and colleagues
