Depute Head Teacher Star of the Sea R.C Primary School (previously St Mary's (Leith) RC Primary) Salary £68,892 Hours 35 per week Star of the Sea R.C. Primary School (previously St Mary's (Leith) R.C. Primary School) has an exciting opportunity for a Depute Head Teacher to join our leadership team. Our senior leadership team currently consists of the Head Teacher, one Depute Head Teacher (this vacancy), one Principal Teacher and a part-time Business Manager. Star of the Sea is a denominational school in the Catholic Parish of St Mary, Star of the Sea, Leith. We currently have a role of 316 pupils spread across 12 classes, with a nursery class which has a capacity of 28 pupils. Specialist teaching is provided in Support for Learning. Pupils are also well supported by the school's team of Pupil Support Assistants. The school has a Parent Council which makes an active contribution to the life of the school. We are looking for a warm, nurturing, dynamic individual with a sound knowledge of leading strategic change, self-evaluation, and Early and First Levels in particular. The successful candidate will have a small teaching class commitment but will primarily lead the Early Years Team and Play Pedagogy across the Early Level and beyond. This will include leading strategic improvement, monitoring pupil achievement, and supporting pastoral care. Further aspects of the remit will be decided upon appointment, based on the strengths of the candidate. Candidates should have: varied teaching experience across the school. experience of leading change at whole school level. good knowledge of the importance of Rights-based education. an understanding of the importance of the wellbeing indicators and how this links with the health and wellbeing curriculum. the ability to make decisions, be solution focused, assertive and creative in problem solving. the ability to multi-task in a very busy school environment. the ability to lead whole school events, staff development and school assemblies. the ability to develop and model positive relationships with pupils, staff, parents/carers, our local parish and with the wider community. good knowledge of ICT and its use to enhance the curriculum and links with parents. Candidates are expected to be fully registered with the GTCS, are responsible for seeking full approval of the Bishop of a Diocese for appointment to this post in a Catholic School, and should hold the Catholic Teaching Certificate. This post is regulated work with children and/or protected adults under the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (Scotland) Act 2007. The preferred candidate will be required to join the PVG Scheme or undergo a PVG Scheme update check. Where an individual has spent a continuous period of 3 months or more out with the UK in the last 5 years, an Overseas Criminal Record Check will be required. You will be required to provide this check.
