Description Starting salary: £27,519 Contract type: Seasonal, Fixed Term Grade: 2 Location: Edinburgh, Holyrood Park Working Hours: 5 out of 7 days, 35 hours per week on a rota of 5 days out of 7 days. This post will focus on providing cover for late shifts (to 8pm), weekend & bank/public holiday work as part of a rota. Daytime shifts may also be included. Seasonal Assistant Rangers’ tasks and roles are mainly outdoors and focus on visitor safety, patrolling and operational delivery. The post-holder will have a strong focus on visitor engagement, landscape protection and nature conservation, and will be expected to set exemplary standards. There will be opportunities to assist in the delivery and development of learning, community, and volunteer engagement. Resolve conflicts and ensure compliance with the Royal Park Regulations, Ancient Monuments and Archaeological Areas Act 1979, and Wildlife and Natural Environment (Scotland) Act. Exercise a general duty of care for visitors and staff and to ensure that all the Health and Safety requirements of current policies, legislation and guidelines are followed. Co-operate across the organisation to assist with the identification, development and planning of projects and initiatives that deliver formal and informal cultural and environmental education programmes and interpretation. Engage the local community and other groups, pro-actively with the Parks and other sites, as well as contribute to planning a varied and relevant events and guided walks programme. Lead and tailor activities such as learning and inclusion groups (including those with additional support needs), public guided walks, events and talks as required. Communicate effectively with a wide range of organisations, individuals and volunteers through personal contact and meetings, print, broadcast and electronic media. Assist with the establishment and maintenance of close, consultative links with members of the public, relevant local, regional and national bodies or organisations in the public, private and voluntary sector, particularly those with a special interest in protecting and conserving the natural and build environment. Assist with monitoring and protecting archaeological, geological, and natural features on our sites, working with external partners. Collate information together for relevant local and national bodies As a First Responder react to, and deal with, a broad range of dynamic emergency situations as they occur, acting as a key point of contact, source of assistance, information, and guidance to all emergency services in attendance, as well as providing advanced first aid and summoning assistance as necessary. Assist with monitoring and protecting archaeological, geological, and natural features on our sites, working with external partners. Collate information together for relevant local and national bodies Key requirements of the role: In order for you to be successful in this post, we will be looking for you to submit a cover letter which addresses how you can meet each of the essential and desirable criteria (in up to 1,200 words), using examples of where you have demonstrated these criteria previously. Essential: Experience delivering high standards of customer service. A genuine interest in working in the heritage tourism industry. A recognised qualification in, interpretation, archaeology, history, heritage education, environmental education, natural science, countryside, recreation or conservation management, although consideration will be given to candidates demonstrating extensive knowledge of cultural or environmental matters, event or public safety management Relevant experience of working with a diverse range of people and organisations in an outdoor setting. Possession of a current full UK driving licence. Ability to work independently at times. Excellent team working skills. Strong and confident communicator. Willingness and enthusiasm to work outside for long periods. Ability to undertake the physical demands of the role, however reasonable adjustments will be made where possible. Ability to demonstrate personal resilience, remaining calm and self-controlled in a variety of challenging situations, which on occasion can be traumatic.
