Key Responsibilities
Deliver technical solutions in response to the company’s programme of work, ensuring technical compliance, quality and appropriateness of design solutions. Lead multi‑discipline engineering teams and manage the design process from concept to detail, including clean water, wastewater, biosolids treatment, pipelines, trunk mains, sewers, pumping stations and networks.
* Take ownership of the technical appropriateness of project solutions throughout the life cycle.
* Ensure design work complies with customer and statutory standards, regulations, and specifications.
* Manage external design consultants and deliver robust, reliable, maintainable designs.
* Produce and manage engineering budgets and schedules.
* Implement change control processes to manage scope, programme and budget changes.
* Ensure all outputs meet health and safety legislation and quality‑management standards.
* Evaluate designs, support supply‑chain specialist input, and collaborate with operational and strategic stakeholders.
* Lead temporary works design and coordination.
Audit & Governance
* Promote the Barhale Code of Conduct and ensure safe, compliant workplace practices.
* Operate fairly with all personnel and treat everyone equally.
* Encourage teamwork, share knowledge, and seek continual improvement.
Key Measures & Targets
* Accurate internal and external forecasting.
* Challenge designs, reports and survey information.
* Mitigate design risk and realise opportunities.
* Achieve profit in line with business expectations.
* Maintain deadlines and produce high‑quality design trackers.
* Foster excellent supply‑chain and stakeholder relationships.
* Use planning tools to manage design programmes.
Essential Qualifications
* Minimum 10 years of design and management experience.
* Expertise in water drainage, potable water mains, and BIM/common data environments.
* Degree, HNC or equivalent in civil engineering.
* Member or candidate of a recognized engineering institution (Incorporated Engineer, Chartered Engineer).
* Excellent communication and liaison skills.
* Self‑driven, results‑oriented, and positive outlook.
