Specialist Clinical Pharmacist – Women and Children

Band 7 – £46,148 - £52,809 per annum
Hours: 37.5 hours per week, flexible working available

Join the pharmacy team at Milton Keynes University Hospital NHS Foundation Trust (MKUH). We are a forward‑thinking department, continuously growing. Recent enhancements include a major refurbishment, a pharmacy robot, a new Pharmacy and Aseptic Unit in the Cancer Centre, and a new Outpatient Pharmacy.

Our services are evolving to give pharmacists and pharmacy technicians more time to work alongside patients while supporting clinicians. We ensure every patient receives safe, high‑quality care, placing patients at the heart of our mission.


Main Duties of the Job

You will become part of a growing team of Clinical and Specialist Pharmacists, supporting patient care across a wide range of specialties within the Trust. Working under the Principal Pharmacist for Women’s and Children’s Services, you will:

* Deliver ward‑based clinical pharmacy services within women’s services and paediatrics.
* Provide clinical support to the dispensary.
* Gain experience in supporting and supervising junior staff.
* Carry out quality improvement and audit work.
* Advocate for medicines optimisation and safety initiatives at the ward level.
* Collaborate with the Principal Pharmacist to address medicines‑related issues affecting the services.
* Support pharmacy out‑of‑hours service after induction.

Our standard working hours are four long days (8 am – 6.30 pm) per week, with coverage on Saturdays, Sundays, and Bank Holidays on a rota basis.

This role is crucial to the delivery, development, and evaluation of pharmaceutical services across the hospital.


Person Specification


Qualifications and Knowledge

* B.Sc. / B.Pharm. / M.Pharm
* Registered with GPhC
* Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
* Evidence of ongoing CPD (in line with GPhC requirements)
* Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy or evidence of equivalent experience (e.g., GLF)
* Member of RPS
* Good understanding of medicines management issues across primary, secondary, and tertiary care interfaces


Experience

* Post‑registration experience in a hospital‑based clinical post.
* Experience working as part of a multidisciplinary team to provide patient care.
* Experience of clinical audit work.
* Awareness of current national standards, guidelines, and service delivery issues.
* Experience of Medicines Information.
* Knowledge of medical management of disease across a range of specialties.
* Evidence of influencing medicines use to optimise care and help clinicians manage expenditure.
* Evidence of managing prioritisation in relation to new drugs and new uses for drugs.
* Significant contribution to innovative or developmental roles and activities within pharmacy.
