Job Description:

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde, one of the UK's largest healthcare systems employing around 40,000 staff, provides a wide range of clinical and non-clinical services to over 1.15 million residents, expanding to 2.2 million with regional and national services.

We invite applications to join our dynamic and friendly team as a Consultant Clinical Scientist (Radiation Protection Adviser and Medical Physics Expert).

Our Health Physics section offers ionising and non-ionising radiation protection services and Medical Physics Expert services in Diagnostic Radiology. It is part of the Department of Clinical Physics and Bioengineering (DCPB), one of the UK's largest medical physics departments.

We seek an experienced medical physicist to support and develop radiation protection services across hospitals in the West and Borders of Scotland. You will join a proactive team of twelve physicists and five technologists, contributing to ongoing changes in legislation, technology, and clinical needs.

You will also lead education and training courses, including collaborations with the University of Glasgow.

Applicants should hold a good honours Degree in Physical Sciences, have completed a formal training programme in medical physics equivalent to the NSHCS Scientist Training Programme (STP) or Scottish Medical Physics and Clinical Engineering Training Scheme (SMPCETS), be registered as a Clinical Scientist with HCPC, and possess current certificates of competence from RPA2000 as a Radiation Protection Advisor (RPA) and Medical Physics Expert (MPE) in Diagnostic Radiology. Good management and communication skills are essential.

This is an exciting time to join NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde's Health Physics service, as it embarks on an innovative development programme to enhance safe, effective, and patient-centered care.

Glasgow offers vibrant cultural and sporting opportunities, proximity to Loch Lomond and Trossachs National Park, and excellent transport links nationally and internationally.

For more information, interested candidates can contact Prof Andrew Reilly, Scientific Director, DCPB at emailprotected or 0141 451 6383, or Shellagh Milligan, Acting Head of Health Physics, at emailprotected.

Details on contacting the Recruitment Service are available within the Candidate Information Packs.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde values diversity and inclusion, supporting applications from all community sections. The organisation is committed to the Armed Forces Covenant, recognizing military skills and experience during recruitment.

Applicants must provide authentic responses to all application questions. The use of AI, automated tools, or third-party assistance to generate or alter responses is strongly discouraged. By applying, candidates confirm their answers are their own work, reflecting personal knowledge and experience.
