A Senior Healthcare Support Worker (SHCSW) supports registered healthcare professionals by performing delegated clinical, therapeutic, and non-clinical tasks for patients, using their experience and knowledge to make decisions within their scope of practice.
At Newton Abbot Hospital we have an opportunity for you to work in a post which provides the highest achievable standard of emergency care, following individual patient assessment of needs.
Working effectively alongside Registered Nurses/Practitioners within the Department as required daily and to undertake supervision and where appropriate assist with the orientation of staff unfamiliar with the department.
* Working clinically to ensure the safety and quality of the care given to your designated patients within the UTC, under the supervision of a registered nurse/practitioner
* Undertaking the following, but not restricted to, clinical tasks competently and efficiently:
* Cannulation and Venepuncture
* Wound Care and basic wound closure
* Plastering of limbs
* Performing ECGs
* Performing Visual acuity tests
* Competently taking and interpreting Vital signs on adults and children
* Competently undertaking Adult and Paediatric Assessments
* Able to make appropriate referrals to Adult and Child Safeguarding teams
* Supporting and working with colleagues during the shift
* Liaising with the wider MDT to maintain safety
* Helping to facilitate the development of the service as part of the wider team
* To participate in discussions and projects that will benefit the team, the patients and the department as a whole
* Working under guidance and in conjunction with the senior nursing team and the departmental Matron
* Following the Department's and Trust's Policies and Protocols to ensure the safety of the department
