We are recruiting a Managing Quantity Surveyor for a Tier 1 main contractor based in Reading, operating across the South Coast and M4 corridor.
Initial schemes include a £90 million project near Southampton, currently being negotiated with the client, involving the construction of a new 800-bed student development with RC Frame and full fit-out. Additionally, there are two major education schemes on the DFE framework, each approximately £45 million in value, involving new builds.
Your role is to lead and manage the project commercial team, collaborate with estimating, design, and delivery teams to establish best practices and delivery methods, and liaise with the client and external stakeholders.
You will be responsible for all financial forecasting and reporting, using your skills to maximize margins without delaying or compromising the build programme or quality. You will take the lead on new development opportunities from the client and be hands-on with complex subcontract packages such as groundwork and services. Additionally, you will train, mentor, and develop the site team, and oversee new appointments to build the final project team.
The contractor is a Tier 1 national business, family-owned, working on schemes from £30 million upwards. They offer career development, training, and external qualifications, with industry-leading staff retention.
Ideally, you will have experience working for a Tier 1 contractor on major projects, either as an MQS seeking your next challenge or as an SQS ready to step up to manage your own major scheme.
