Offer description

Description The HS2 London Tunnels is a megaproject and SCS Joint Venture (JV) uses the latest technology to collect accurate and robust data to assess performance. We need people that want to use the data to provide insight to the project team and enable effective decision making SCS JV is looking for a Project Controls Apprentice to work and develop within the key functions, Project Controls, Planning and Risk Management, in the delivery of a megaproject. There is also possibility to work inthe Change and Estimating functions. You will join a cohort of apprentices learning about advanced techniques and methods used to manage projects delivering design and construction. You will also spend time each week studying at college where you will learn the principles of project controls, planning and risk management. Then work at SCS JV will enable you to use those skills on a project. The course you study will lead you to a recognised Level 6 apprenticeship qualification and after this you convert this to a BSc Project Controls Professional. We will provide a mentor who will support you in the role on the project and at college. Together we will review your progress and help you to get the guidance and training that you need to ensure you are successful in your role. Every six months we will assess your attendance and performance. As you progress through your apprenticeship, we will award a pay increment. We have three main locations for work on the project as well as the three key functions that you will be supporting on the project. The project is constantly evolving as we complete our design and move into procurement and construction. So, you will experience a variety of challenges in your role, and we want to develop well rounded professionals that can take responsibility of one of the main functions on a package within 2-3 years. Fortunately, the three roles overlap significantly and so there are a lot of common skills, but they are also quite different. So, if you are interested in data, and using that data to provide insight to manage projects we think you will really enjoy this apprenticeship at SCS JV and a career in megaprojects. About the project The role will work on the HS2 project. HS2 is the UK’s new high speed rail network. It will be a catalyst for economic growth across Britain, freeing up space on the existing railways and connecting 8 out of the UK’s 10 biggest cities with fast, reliable and frequent high-speed services. The Skanska | Costain | STRABAG (SCS JV) is delivering the HS2 Main Work Civils Contract (MWCC) for London. The combined value of the contracts is significant with the works due for completion this decade. As part of the Apprenticeship funding regulations, students must have been consistently resident in the UK for at least the last 3 years. What does joining an apprenticeship at Costain offer me? There are a wide range of apprenticeships available, both in levels of qualification and length of study. At Costain we have a variety of apprenticeships on offer, working on projects around the UK, in sectors including nuclear, highways, rail. Water, airports, and tunnels, and with a number of partners and joint ventures. The level and training provider for your apprenticeship will depend on the skills you present at interview. The Early Careers team will register you with a suitable training provider who can support the delivery of your qualification. Being an apprentice means you will work both on-the-job with your project at site, and off-the-job with the provider. When taking on one of the many apprenticeships on offer by Costain, you will be supported by your project line manager and team, the Costain Early Careers Team, and the training provider of your academic qualification. The training provider may be a college, a university or even an independent training provider. You will be supported throughout your apprenticeship by your local team and line manager, and you will be given time to carry out your studies with the provider etc. Your on-the-job training will be in line with the work available on site but will afford the opportunity to ensure that you are given on site experience required to meet the technical and competency levels to achieve your apprenticeship goals. Responsibilities Updating programmes and schedules to reflect the plan to complete the works. Assessment of threats and opportunities, identification of mitigations and quantitative risk analysis. Preparing and presenting project reports to a variety of stakeholders. Assessing performance using both quantity and earned value methods. Control of costs and bills of quantities. Following training, manipulate and analyse complex data using various software packages. Administration and coordination of meetings and briefings. Understand and comply with HSSE policies Perform other related duties as assigned Maintaining your work diary as part of your apprenticeship Working towards and successfully completing your qualification. Flexible working: We welcome you to ask about the flexibility you need. This might be part-time, remote working, or compressed hours for example. Anyone who applies for a role can ask about flexibility at interview. In return, we will explore what is possible for the role.
