Position Overview
Ithaca Energy is accepting applications for the position of Senior Tax Advisor, located in our Aberdeen Office.
Reporting into the Head of Tax, with responsibility for taxes as well as managing the relationship with HMRC, the successful candidate will have a good knowledge of ring fence taxation as applicable to a group of upstream oil and gas companies and be either a qualified accountant and / or a member of the Institute of Taxation. The group is dynamic and growing so there is an expectation that the Senior Tax Advisor can apply him / herself where required to by the business.
Responsibilities
Responsibilities may include but are not limited to:
* Responsibility for filing of the UK Corporate Tax returns of the group.
* Responsibility for filing of PRT returns for the group.
* Assistance with tax governance within the group including publication of the Tax Strategy, Senior Accounting Officer, and the Corporate Criminal Offence, and maintaining relevant documentation to demonstrate and test compliance.
* Assistance with other compliance including, for example, EITI Filings, EU Directive, Country by Country Reporting and Schedule 23 Data Holder return.
Reporting
* Preparation / review of the quarterly tax provisions of the group and prepare / review tax disclosures.
* Preparation / review of the statutory tax disclosures and provisions of the UK group companies.
* Manage the tax relationship with the auditors.
Technical
1. Keep abreast of technical developments and advise the business accordingly.
2. Attend and contribute towards industry wide bodies, for example, O&GUK and UKOITC.
3. Mentor the Graduate Tax Associate.
4. As required, support with structuring of M&A opportunities in relation to corporate and asset transactions
5. Support advice on tax planning to ensure optimum utilisation of tax attributes across the group
6. Support advice on financing
7. Assist with other ad hoc tax advice for example, for contracts, decommissioning, finance and economics departments.
Qualifications & Experience
* Degree in finance or a related discipline
* Professional qualification in accounting and/or taxation is required
* Strong team ethic with experience of developing effective working relationships with internal & external stakeholder groups to ensure successful delivery
* Extensive experience in a tax technical role with experience of application in practice. Ideally, also experience in upstream oil and gas industry
